Pointy Dog Dance Company is a youth company that fosters the creative development of 14-18yr olds. Members train in contemporary dance technique, participate in choreographic projects and perform regularly. Selected guest tutors bring their professional choreographic and performance experience into the studio, to choreograph work on the company and to guide the company members' own creative work.

Pointy Dog advocates creativity, self expression, hard work and a sense of community. The company environment is both challenging and supportive, and actively embraces diversity.

The company trains weekly throughout the school terms, from 5-7pm on a Friday night which includes contemporary technique class and a choreographic session. Additional rehearsals are scheduled in negotiation with company members as performances require. Classes take place in the beautiful studios at The Auckland Performing Arts Center (TAPAC), in Western Springs Auckland.

The company's long established links to tertiary and professional dance practice in New Zealand provide the members with a connection to a rich dance community and potential future avenues of training.

Pointy Dog helped me to build skills in choreography, performance and to realise that dance can be a serious, yet extremely fun thing.
I loved being in the company because we performed and worked together regularly, meaning that by the end of each year I had built strong friendship ties within the group.
